Golden Bears defeat SJCC in a close battle 26-19.

Sept. 9, 2016

Friday’s Sandusky County rival between Gibsonburg and Fremont St. Joseph got off to a bad start for the Crimson Streaks.

In the first quarter, Gibsonburg’s Ryan Clark scored on a 19-yard and Kane Gomez added a two point conversion to make it 8-0 early on. Later, in the quarter Addison Weaver hauled in a 22-yard touchdown pass from Clark to put the Golden Bears up 14-0 as things were looking quite blank for SJCC.

Momentum then shifted gears for a moment as Spencer Harrison found Zach Militello for a 38-yard touchdown and an extra point by Alex Baez cut Gibsonburg’s lead to 14-7.

The Golden Bears then responded with their third score of the first quarter when Gomez scored on a 48-yard touchdown strike from Clark for a 20-7 lead. At half the Bears were leading 20-7. Gibsonburg would take a 26-7 lead in the third quarter, but the Crimson Streaks weren’t about to pack it in.

In the fourth quarter, Harrison found Militello for two more touchdown passes and SJCC found itself down 26-19 in the game’s final minutes. But Golden Bears found a way to hold on to defeat SJCC 26-19.

Clark completed 9-of-24 passing for 121 yards and two scores and led the team with 25 yards rushing on 18 rushes. Gibsonburg will take on Toledo Christian.
